Mr. Bascom Leonard "Len" Phillips Jr., 76, died Monday, Sept. 1, 2014, at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born Sept. 29, 1937, in Charlotte, the son of the late Bascom Leonard Phillips Sr. and Ruth McConnell Phillips.
Mr. Phillips was the owner and operator of Palmetto Broadcasting Systems – WAGL Radio Station and served our great country in the Army National Guard.
Mr. Phillips is survived by two sons, Brian Leonard Phillips and his wife, Dena, and Daniel Wayne Phillips and his wife, Leslie, both of Lancaster; a daughter, Kelley P. Strauss and her husband, Andrew, of Rock Hill; a brother, Robert Wesley Phillips and his wife, Laura, of Charlotte; and 11 grandchildren.
The celebration of life funeral service for Mr. Phillips is 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5, at the chapel of Burgess Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 4, at Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, and suggests memorials be made to Shriner's Hospital for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
