KERSHAW – Mr. Cleveland Sowell, 95, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, in KershawHealth, Camden. Mr. Sowell was born in Kershaw and was a son of the late Grover Cleveland and Lillie Coates Sowell. Mr. Sowell retired from Kershaw Granite Company as a foreman and was a lifelong member of Thorn Hill Baptist Church. He loved picking the guitar, fiddle and dancing on Thursday nights at "Miss Ruby's" and being around people. Mr. Sowell was also a farmer. Surviving are his son, Gary C. Sowell of Kershaw; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a brother, Hazel N. Sowell and his wife, Viola, of Kershaw. Mr. Sowell was predeceased by his wife, Eva Margaret Hasty Sowell; a son, Arthur Leon Sowell; sisters, Lillian S. Kelly and Viola S. Horton; and brothers, Boyce C. Sowell and Wilber Sowell. Funeral services for Arthur Cleveland Sowell are 3 p.m. today, June 23, at Thorn Hill Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Steve Mackey and pastor Cotton Pate, with burial in the church cemetery.
