Charlotte, N.C. – Mr. Moore, 75, of Charlotte, died Saturday, July 13, 2013, at Carrington Place. Donald was born on Feb. 16, 1938, in Charlotte and was a son of the late Dr. Robert Ashe and Virginia Evans Moore. Donald had fond memories of growing up in Charlotte and attending the original Alexander Graham Middle School (now home to the Dowd YMCA) and Myers Park High School. He enjoyed taking family trips to Florida, fishing in the Gulf Stream and hunting with his dog, Doc, on land around River Hills, where he worked for many years. Donald loved spending time with family and often told stories of his childhood friends and places that once dotted the Charlotte landscape. Donald enjoyed model trains and working on automobiles. He had quite the tool collection and was especially proud of his 1965 Red Ford Galaxy. Donald never met a stranger and was always quick to help others. He liked hanging out at the Providence Road Amoco Service Station and spending time with friend Elizabeth Thomas. Following the death of his mother in 2001, Donald lived for 11 years with his second cousin, Robert Glenn Folk, of Charlotte.
He is survived by cousins, Dettie Piper of Greenville, Woody Woodham of Columbus, N.C., Nan Alexander and husband, Glenn, of Georgetown, Harry Evans and wife, Pat, of Pendleton, Robert Moore and wife, Susan of Van Wyck, James Moore Jr. and wife, Dianne, of Van Wyck, William Moore Jr. of McConnells and Brevard Merritt Jr. of Marion. Donald was predeceased by his cousin, Dr. Chris Evans Folk Sr., of Charlotte. The family extends grateful appreciation to Donald's caregivers, Anna Malina, Mary Grindstaff, Vickey Davis and Reid Henighan, for many years of faithful support, and to the wonderful staff at Carrington Place who lovingly cared for Donald.
