Donald Eugene Barrett, 57, died Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, at his home. He was born Nov. 27, 1955, in Lancaster, a son of the late Sanford Allen Barrett and Peggy Lou McDonald Gillispie.

Mr. Barrett was a member of Second Baptist Church. He was a loving brother who loved his service dog, Miss Maggie, and was a diehard Earnhardt fan and loved NASCAR. Mr. Barrett loved going to the river and loved life and lived it to the fullest. Having been paralyzed for 22 years, he overcame life's obstacles and will be missed dearly.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Barrett is 1 p.m. today, Oct. 25, at Lancaster Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Brian Saxon officiating, with burial in the Lancaster Memorial Park.
Mr. Barrett is survived by a brother, Bruce Barrett and his wife, Debbie of Lancaster; two sisters, Linda Long and her husband, Danny, and Brenda Jackson and her husband, Ronnie, all of Rock Hill and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Ronnie Dale Barrett.
The family will receive friends from noon until 1 p.m. today, Oct. 25, at Lancaster Funeral Home.
