On Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2017, Ellis Lee Champion, 62, departed this life to enter into eternal rest.
Ellis, the son of Beatrice Champion and Willie Edward Champion, was born on Feb. 24, 1955, in Lancaster.
Ellis was a known as "Champ", "Meatball" and "Daddy" to his family, friends and the community. He enjoyed watching television and listening to music. His favorite shows were all of the news channels and the Western Channel. He enjoyed watching the Soap Operas, "The Young and the Restless" and "The Bold and the Beautiful". His favorite musical singers were Patti Labelle, Whitney Houston, Isaac Hayes, Parliament Funkadelic and Maze featuring Frankie Beverly. His favorite expression was "Watch out now!"
Ellis was a caring, fun and loving person. He was in the U.S. Navy for 14 years prior to being employed at The Naval Computer and Telecommunications Area Master Station Atlantic Center for approximately five years before he retired. He loved the relaxing sport of fishing and crabbing.
Although born and raised in Lancaster, Mr. Champion most recently resided in Virginia Beach, Va., with his wife and youngest daughter.
He was funeralized on Sunday, Aug. 6, by Beach Funeral and Cremation Services. His final resting place is Colonial Grove Memorial Park in Virginia Beach.
Ellis' loving memory will forever live in the hearts of those who loved, admired and adored him. He is survived by his wife, Diane T. Champion of 38 years, two daughters, Dr. Kimarcus Z. Lockhart of Charlotte and Shayla Ellisa Champion of the home; one niece, Pamela Champion of Charlotte; one aunt, Florence Ingram of Georgia; special classmate, Gracie L. Davis; and other classmates of the Lancaster High School Class of 1973, the Hughes, Ingram, Lockhart, Witherspoon, White and Thomas families; and a host of other special family and friends.
