CARY, N.C – Elsie Walters Boyd died April 29, 2013 at her home. She was born to the late Beuford Walters and Myrtis Adams Walters on April 24, 1942, in Lancaster. Elsie retired after 25 years with the state of North Carolina, 15 of those years with the Industrial Commission. Following retirement, she enjoyed working in her flower beds, feeding the many birds that found sanctuary in her backyard and RV camping with her husband, Wayne and in-laws, Dot and Richard Hicklin. Elsie also loved her Sunday school class at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church, of which she was a member for many years. Elsie is survived by her husband, Wayne Boyd of Cary; her daughter, Trisha and her husband, Jeff, and grandson, Logan of Zebulon, N.C.; her son, Mark and his wife, Tracy, and granddaughter, Caroline of Wake Forest, N.C.; beloved mother, Myrtis Walters; brother, Modie Walters and his wife, Fran, all of Lancaster; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 2, at Greenwood Forest Baptist Church in Cary. Services are 3 p.m. Sunday, May 5, at Pleasant Dale Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Jessie Adams, with burial in Pleasant Dale Baptist Church cemetery. The family will receive friends after the service. The family would like to thank Dr. Hanna Sanoff and her team at the University of North Carolina Cancer Center and Hospice of Wake County for their exceptional care and support during Elsie's illness. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Wake County or Greenwood Forest Baptist Church. Lancaster Funeral Home & Cremation Service is serving the family of Mrs. Boyd.
