PAGELAND – Funeral services for Hade E. Robinson Sr., 69, are noon today, Oct. 25, at the Pageland Community Center, 1113 W. McGregor St., Pageland. Committal and interment will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Pageland.
Hade Emanuel Robinson was born June 10, 1944, in Lancaster County, to the late Earlie and Flonnie Sowell Robinson. Hade entered into eternal life on Saturday, Oct. 19, 2013, at CMC-Union hospital, Monroe.
He became a member of Crossroad Missionary Baptist Church in Lancaster at an early age. He was an active Christian servant as announcement clerk, member of the usher board, Sunday school teacher, member of the trustee board, and later member of the deacon board.
He graduated from Petersburg High School in Pageland in 1963. After high school, he started his working career at Caro-Knit Textiles. Then in 1971, he started his grocer profession with Pageland Food Center, now known as Pageland I.G.A. He continued his career in the grocery business for 42 years. In addition, he owned and operated R&L Floor Services from 1996 until the present day.
In June 1978, Hade was appointed by S.C. Gov. James B. Edward as a founding and charter member of The Mental Retardation Board of Chesterfield County. He continued his servant leadership for many years as a member, and then in 1996 he was appointed as chairman for Chesterfield County Board of Disabilities & Special Needs, known today as CHESCO Services. He continued to serve as chair of the board until his death. He also served as chairman of the board for nine HUD corporations.
As an active citizen of the community he worked with the Pageland/Jefferson United Way. In 1994, he received the United Way President's Award and Leadership Service Award. As a member of the Pageland Chamber of Commerce, he was recognized as Citizen of the Year in 2001. He also received the Citizenship Award from the town of Pageland in 2002. In 2004 and 2005, he was nominated as a finalist for the "9 Who Care" award given by WSOC-TV in Charlotte.
He leaves to cherish his legacy and memories: two sons, Hade E. Robinson Jr. of Charlotte and Wilbert Robinson (Neidra) of Fort Mill; a daughter, Kelli Robinson Graham (Kevin) of Matthews; six brothers and two sisters, Earlie Robinson Jr.(Loise) of Chesapeake; Dr. Waldo Robinson (Emma Jean), Sylvia Robinson Blackwell, Hazel Robinson, Elmore Robinson (Susie) and Hiawatha Robinson, all of Jefferson, Curtis Robinson of Tulsa and Rudene Robinson-Felton of Englewood, N.J.; four grandchildren, India, Kennedy, Blake and Hailey; former spouse, Genevieve Miller Robinson of Jefferson and companion, Gennette Sowell of Chesterfield.
