ROCK HILL – Mr. Harold Thomas "Tommy" Blackwell, 78, passed from this life to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 31, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center surrounded by his family.
Mr. Blackwell was born in Rock Hill and was a son of the late Thomas Benton Blackwell and the late Nannie Bell Sutton Blackwell.
He was a graduate of Rock Hill High School class of 1953 and a graduate of North Greenville Jr. College. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be deeply missed. Tommy worked and retired from Georgia Pacific with 40 plus years of service. He was a life member of the York Masonic Lodge No. 385, York Crescent Shrine Club and Jackson Shrine Club of Lancaster. He was a member of Hejaz Shrine Temple with many years of service.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Angella Rayfield Blackwell of Rock Hill; his son, Ragin Blackwell and his wife, Jackie; his daughter, Andrea B. Farmer and her husband, Calvin; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Doris Blackmon, Mildred Etters and Janet Broughton; and his daughter, Lynn Blackwell Williams.
Memorial services are 4 p.m. today, Aug. 4, at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Road, Rock Hill, officiated by the Rev. Rick Sturgis, with Masonic Rites will follow the service.
Burial will be private.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Blackwell's name to Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children, 950 W. Faris St, Greenville, SC 29605 or to a charity of one's choice.
