Hazel Ackerman Hegler, 92, died Sept. 17, 2013, at her home.
She was born Dec. 19, 1920, in Andrews, the daughter of the late Major Lee Ackerman Sr. and Rhoda Bell Norton Ackerman and was the wife of the late Pierce H. "Buster" Hegler.
She retired from Springs Industries and was very active in her community where she served for more than 10 years as a volunteer for Springs Memorial Hospital and Lancaster Care Center. She was also an active member of Springdell Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school, GA's and was active with the youth.
Survivors include a son, Joe Hegler and his wife, Debby, of Lancaster, and a sister, Vera Harper and her husband, Sidney, of Lancaster.
She was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Hegler; seven brothers, Robert Ackerman, Leonard Ackerman, Lee Ackerman Jr., Ted Ackerman, Kenneth Ackerman, Thomas Ackerman and Jimmy Ackerman and two sisters, Bertie Moore and Joanne Ghent.
Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Springdell Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Donnie Tillman. Burial is private.
The family will receive friends one hour after the service.
