LANCASTER – James "Jimmie" Ackerman, 82, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2013, at Piedmont Medical Center. 
He was born Sept. 14, 1930, in Andrews, a son of the late Major Lee Ackerman and Rhoda Norton Ackerman.
Ackerman retired from Zachary Construction Co., was a Mason, a Shriner with Hejaz Temple and a member of Springdale Baptist Church.
Survivors include a wife, Mary Ellen Ackerman; a son, Ken Ackerman of Rock Hill; a daughter, Debbie Khoury of Lancaster; two sisters, Hazel Hegler and Vera Haynes and her husband, Sidney, all of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Jennifer and Natalie Khoury and Brantlee and Hailey Ackerman.
He was preceded in death by six brothers, Robert Ackerman, Thomas Ackerman, Leonard Ackerman, Lee Ackerman Jr., Kenneth Ackerman and Ted Ackerman; and two sisters, Joanne Ghent and Bertie Moore.
A service for Ackerman will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the chapel of Hartley–Burgess Funeral Home, 1800 Charlotte Highway, officiated by the Rev. Jerry Devenny. 
The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, at the funeral home and, in lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Elyse Rebecca Hardin Foundation, PO Box 3096, Lancaster, SC 29721.
