Joyce Carey Deese, 66, went home to meet her Lord and Savior after a brief illness on Nov. 10, 2013. She was born May 17, 1947, in Speedwell, Tenn., a daughter of the late Roy Carey and Ruth Lowery Carey.

Mrs. Deese was an active and beloved member of Camp Creek Baptist Church, where she directed an exercise class. She was a member of the Willing Workers Sunday school class. She was a dedicated wife, mother and friend. She was much loved and will be missed by many.
Mrs. Deese is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, Pete Deese, Sr.; a son, Pete Deese, Jr., and his wife, Kelly, and their children, Daniel and Lena, all of Lancaster; a daughter, Teresa Bixenman and her husband, Dr. William Bixenman, both of Chester; a sister, Brenda Williams of Lancaster; and a brother, Clifton Carey of Fort Lawn.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Deese is at 2 p.m. today, Nov. 13, at Camp Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Randy Mellichamp and Cecil Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in the Camp Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, at Lancaster Funeral Home and at other times at the home, 2005 S. Potter Road.
