LANCASTER – Mr. Lonnie Hazard "Friction" Williams, 86, passed away Monday, Dec. 3, 2018, at Springs Memorial Hospital.
He was born July 30, 1932, in Rock Hill, a son of the late Chalmas Williams and Ila McEleveen Williams. He was the husband of the late Mary Threatt Williams.
Mr. Williams enjoyed reading, walking, and riding motorcycles and horses. He was employed with Springs Industries for 41 years, where he was known by all as "Friction." Mr. Williams was affectionately known by his family as "Runt." He loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them. He was a Boy Scout leader for many years. Mr. Williams served his country in the U.S. Navy and was stationed on the USS Intrepid. He was a very active member of Grace Presbyterian, where he served as an elder and a deacon.
Mr. Williams is survived by his son, Lonnie Bob Williams and his wife, Paula; two granddaughters, Barbara Whitaker and Amanda Koehler and her husband, William; three great-grandchildren, Annabeth Whitaker, Henry Koehler and Emily Koehler; and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Williams was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Mary Williams; his parents; four brothers, George Williams, Clifford Williams, Shular Williams and Walter Williams Sr.; and a sister, Vera Wood.
The celebration of life funeral service for Mr. Williams will be 3 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5, at Grace Presbyterian Church, officiated by the Rev. Marty Simmons.
The family will receive friends from 1:45-2:45 p.m. at the church.
Burial will follow at Lancaster Memorial Park with military honors.
