LANCASTER – Mr. Melvin "Pete" Snipes, 83, of Lancaster passed away peacefully, Monday, May 14, 2018, at Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House.
He was born April 1, 1935, in Pageland, a son of the late Ernest Melvin Snipes and Ethel Williams Snipes.
Mr. Snipes attended New Hope Baptist Church. He served our country in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict in the Philippines. Mr. Snipes was CEO of Superior Electrical Services Inc. for 40 years. He always tried to instill in everyone the importance of hard work and integrity. Mr. Snipes enjoyed playing golf.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Snipes will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 16, at New Hope Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steven Pace officiating. Entombment will be in the Lancaster Memorial Park Mausoleum with military honors.
Mr. Snipes is survived by his wife, Sylvia Burris Snipes of Lancaster; two sons, Jeffrey L. Snipes of Lancaster and Christopher B. Snipes and his wife, Stephanie, of Tampa, Fla.; a daughter, Mitzi Gardiner and her husband, Skip, of Annapolis, Md.; four brothers, Jimmy "Worm" Snipes, Charles "Dimp" Snipes and his wife, Jackie, and Donnie Snipes and his wife, Robbie, all of Lancaster and Carl Landon Snipes and his wife, Judy, of Dallas, N.C.; a sister, Jo Ann Snipes of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Kristen, Britton, Sam and Sarah; and two great-grandchildren, London and Jude.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home, 2417 Lynwood Drive, Lancaster.
