Mrs. Nellie "Nell" Geneva Sowell Martin, 89, passed away Feb. 15, 2013 at her home. She was born June 19, 1923, in Lancaster and was a daughter of the late Ernest Clifton Sowell and Dicie Gardner Sowell. She was the wife of the late Stamey Albert Martin. Mrs. Martin retired from Springs Industries and was an avid visitor to the residents of Lancaster Convalescent Center. She was also a charter member of Immanuel Baptist Church, where she was a member of the Faithful Saints Sunday School Class and the Young at Heart. Mrs. Martin is survived by two sons, Ronnie A. Martin of Lancaster and Gary L. Martin and his wife, Kate, of Manning; a daughter, Janice Stewart and her husband, Millon, of Lexington; two brothers, Paul Sowell of Lancaster and Jim Sowell and his wife, Sandy, of Heath Springs; three sisters, Maxine Roberts of Kershaw, Ann Knight and her husband, Thomas, of Stanley, N.C., and Molly Wallace of Lancaster; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Curtis Sowell; and three sisters, Eva Turner, Azilee Workman and Kat Adams. The celebration of Life funeral services for Mrs. Martin are 3 p.m. today, Feb. 17, at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1152 Great Falls Highway, officiated by the Rev. Tim Anderson, with burial at Lancaster Memorial Park. The family of Mrs. Martin will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary.
