Phyllis Harmon Snipes, 67, of Lancaster, died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013, at her home after a long battle with breast cancer.
She was born April 30, 1946, in Lancaster, the daughter of Katherine Parkman Harmon and the late Homer L. Harmon Sr.
Phyllis was a member of Douglas Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir and helped work with the youth. Her love of children helped with her career for the Lancaster County School District from which she retired in 2006. She loved life, her two grandsons, family, friends and the beach.
Survivors include her mother, Katherine Harmon of Lancaster; two sons, Ken Snipes Jr. and his wife, Lisa, and Davis Snipes, all of Lancaster; two grandsons, Brady Snipes and Logan Snipes, both of Lancaster; three brothers, Homer Harmon Jr. and his wife, Brenda, of Great Falls, Edgar Harmon Sr. and his wife, Nancy, and William Harmon, all of Lancaster; five nephews; seven nieces; and special friends, Angie and Roger Baker, Becky and Clyde Lyles, Dianna and Robert Brown, Jan and Rick Baker, Jill McIssac, Linda and Pat Small, Sharon Craddock and Sherri and Rick Walters.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ms. Snipes is 4 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17, 2013, at Lancaster Memorial Park with the Rev. Doug Pate officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 17 at Douglas Presbyterian Church prior to the memorial service at the Lancaster Memorial Park at 4 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Erwin Elementary School Library, 1477 Locustwood Ave., Lancaster, SC 29720.
