Robert "Bob" Funderburk Sr., 74, passed away Sunday, Feb. 17, 2013. Mr. Funderburk was born in Lancaster on Oct. 18, 1938 and was a son of the late Minnie Ree Funderburk and the late Shell Harper. He was united in marriage to Bettye James Funderburk. He was a member of Brookland Baptist Church in Columbia. Funderburk was educated in the Lancaster County School District and graduated from Barr Street High School in 1957. He was instrumental in the planning of the Lancaster Training School and Barr Street High School reunion. After graduating from high school, he relocated to Washington, D.C. and started what became a prominent career in the food industry. His work included the management of The Congressional Club, World Bank, Black Beard and the Diplomat Hotel. After moving to Columbia he continued his management career at the Summit Club, Faculty House at the University of South Carolina, Capital City Club, Funderburk at Middleburg, Funderburk and Houston Catering, Rust in the Vista and was the first manager of Brookland Baptist Church Banquet and Conference Center. He extended his career in Denmark, S.C. as owner and operator of Denmark Diner. Survivors include his wife, Bettye James Funderburk of Irmo; two sons, Robert G. Funderburk Jr. and his wife, Troy, of Columbia, and Jerome Funderburk and his wife, Sandra, of Salisbury, N.C. Funeral services are noon Friday, Feb. 22, at Brookland Baptist Church, 1064 Sunset Blvd, West Columbia, officiated by the Rev. Dr. Charles B. Jackson Sr., with viewing two hours prior to the service. The family will also receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 22, at Crawford Funeral Home, 410 W. Meeting St. Committal service and burial are 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, in Lancaster Memorial Park. Crawford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements
