LANCASTER – Mr. Robert Walter "Bobby" Parker Sr., 81, passed away at his home Tuesday, Feb. 6, 2018.
He was born Oct. 28, 1936, in Lancaster, a son of the late Eugene Archie Parker and Naomi Carnes Parker and was the husband of Mildred Dutton Parker.
Mr. Parker began his working career mixing dye at Grace Bleachery for Springs Industries. When he retired after 32 years, he was the Superintendent of the Dye Department. After Springs, he worked for Blackmon-Uhler in sales for 17 years. He traveled to England as a consultant to build a dye range and stayed in England for three months. He served as board member and Chairman of Buford School Board of Trustees. Bobby was a life time member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, where he sang in the choir and served in many other capacities. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing golf and riding his John Deere tractor, but his greatest love was his family.
Mr. Parker is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mildred Parker; a son, Robert "Bobby" Parker Jr. and his wife, Heidi; two daughters, Beth Parker Johnson and her husband, Mark, and Allison Parker Welch and her husband, Brian; grandchildren, Sara and Max Morris, Anna Maria Parker, Andrew and Sarah Johnson, Daniel Johnson and fiancée, Melissa Murphy, Benjamin Johnson, Rebecca Johnson, Tyler Welch, Caleb Welch and Brenna Welch; and one great-grandson, Henry Parker Johnson.
Mr. Parker was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Archie Smith Parker; and two sisters, Doris Eugenia Johnson and Mary Genevieve Parker.
The celebration of life service for Mr. Parker will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at Tabernacle United Methodist Church, by the Revs. Larry King, Tommy Wilkes and Heather Humphries. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, at Burgess Funeral Home; and other times at the residence of Bobby Jr. and Heidi Parker, 4265 Rowell Road, Lancaster.
