CAMDEN – A service to celebrate the life of Lance Cpl. Rusty Ellis, 48, U.S. Marine Corps veteran, of Camden, will be held at noon Thursday, Oct. 5, in Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia. Military honors will be rendered and interment will follow the service in the cemetery. The Revs. Ray Robinson and Jimmy Jordan will conduct the service.
Rusty died Saturday, Sept. 30, from injuries sustained in an ATV hunting accident. He was born in Lancaster, a graduate of Lancaster High School, and a loving, dedicated husband and father. He was a current employee of Special Materials Company in Kershaw where he was a truck driver.
A proud U.S. Marine tank crewman, serving in Desert Storm, Rusty was a true outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Baker Funeral Home in Kershaw; and other times at the home, 2161 Lakeshore Road, Camden.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, Toys for Tots or .
Survivors include his wife Jennifer and his faithful, working German Shepard and beloved companion, Zoey, both of the home; three daughters, Jeanie Stroud, Justine Ellis and Jessica (Jonathon) Morris; his parents, Russell and Jenny Ellis; his sister, Janice (Glenn) Smith; brother, Joel (Jessica) Ellis; sister-in-law, Leslie (Dennis) Miller; five grandchildren; eight nieces; one nephew; numerous aunts and uncles; and Granny
Special family friends include the Baker and Morris families.
