Mr. Sam Hatcher Jr., 82, died Sunday, March 24, 2013, at his home. He was born July 22, 1930, in Dillon and was a son of the late Sam Hatcher Sr. and Mary Vindell Hatcher. He was the husband of the late Lucille Pate Hatcher. Mr. Hatcher retired from the Lancaster County Sheriff's Department as a detective after 18 years of service and was a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church where he had served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. Mr. Hatcher is survived by three sons, Richard Hatcher and his wife, Jane, of Concord, N.C., Dennis Hatcher and his wife, Karen, and Chuck Hatcher and his wife, Denise, all of Lancaster; a brother, Buddy Hatcher of Dillon; five sisters, Elsie Mae Osborne of Tryon, N.C., Evelyn Peacock, Jean Hayes and Mildred Daniels, all of Dillon, and Carolyn Bryant of Florence; five grandchildren, Anita Robinson, Derrick Hatcher, Scotty Hatcher, Mitchell Hatcher and Melissa Rathel; four great-grandchildren, Alaina Robinson, Austin Hatcher, Gabe Robinson and Madison Hatcher; and two step- grandchildren, Adam and Derrick Davis. Mr. Hatcher was preceded in death by two sons, Jeffrey Dean Hatcher and Rodger Dale Hatcher; two brothers, Doyle Hatcher and Hartley Hatcher; and two sisters, Frances Barrineau and Gladys Gray. The celebration of life funeral services for Mr. Hatcher were 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, 600 Nichols Road, officiated by the Revs. Rick Hunter and Rev. Joe Reed, with burial at Lancaster Memorial Park. The family suggest memorial contributions be made to Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, 600 Nichols Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
