KERSHAW – Mrs. Willie Mae Bradley Carnes, 96, passed away Thursday, May 16, 2013, at Agape Assisted Living in Lexington. She was born August 25, 1916, in Pacolet and was a daughter of the late Odell Bradley and Daisy Harris Bradley. Mrs. Carnes was the widow of Van Elijah Carnes. Mrs. Carnes was an inspiration to her community and First Baptist Church of Kershaw for sixty-five years, where she served her Lord as deaconess, a Sunday school teacher, a training union director and women's missionary union director. She assisted her late husband in the operation of Cauthen Funeral Home in Kershaw for over fifty years. Mrs. Carnes is survived by three daughters, Jean G. Sims of Kershaw, Cheryl C. Baker and her husband, Mike, of Irmo, and Melanie Carnes and her friend, Jim McDiarmid, of Columbia; a sister, Virginia B. Horton of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Crystal G. Truesdell and her husband, Jerry, of Westville, Dr. Matthew B. Baker of Eindhoven, The Netherlands, and Andrew B. Baker of Charleston; and two great grandchildren, Brittany L. Truesdell of Columbia and Jeremy Truesdell and his fiancé, Sarah Robinson, of Westville. She was preceded in death by a brother, Coleman L. Bradley; and two sisters, Louise B. Snipes and Irene B. Hyatt. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Carnes are 3 p.m. Saturday, May 18, at First Baptist Church of Kershaw, officiated by the Rev. Bryant D. Fersner, with burial in Lancaster Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2:30 p.m. Saturday, May 18, in the chapel of First Baptist Church of Kershaw.
