Walter O. Craig, 89, of Lancaster, peacefully passed away at his home Tuesday, Feb. 11, 2014.

Born July 26, 1924, he was a son of the late Otis and Mae Hopkins Craig. Walter was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he proudly served our country during World War II and received a Purple Heart. He worked for Kershaw County as an equipment operator and was a member of High Point Baptist Church.
Walter is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Loyce Craig; a son, Carroll Craig of Lancaster; a brother, Roland Gene Craig and his wife, June, of Lancaster; a sister, Dessie Plyler and her husband, Howard, of Lancaster; a granddaughter, Cindy Fortune of Atlanta, Ga.; a grandson, Brian Craig of Lancaster; three great-granddaughters, Lindsey Brooke and her husband, Chad Fleener, of Matthews, N.C., Savannah Guiver and Syler Lewis, of Atlanta; and two great-grandsons, Austin Craig and Ryan Craig, of Lancaster.
In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his brother, Frank Craig; sisters, Virginia Adams, Ellen Cauthen, and Nell Whaley; and great great-grandson, Carter William Fleener.
A service is 3 p.m. today, Feb. 16, with the Revs. Billy Belk and Bobby Joyner officiating at High Point Baptist Church, 1888 Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
The family will receive friends before the service at 2 p.m. Interment will follow the service at High Point Baptist Church Cemetery.
