Mr. Richard Joseph Ghent, 61, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, March 23, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

He was born Oct. 16, 1952, in Lancaster, a son of the late Harry Wade Ghent and LaEunie Brown Ghent.
Mr. Ghent was a member of Saint Luke United Methodist Church.
He served our country in the U.S. Army. He later served the citizens of this area with the Lancaster County Sheriff's Office and had retired as a Major. Mr. Ghent was a Master Mason and member of Jackson Lodge No. 53.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Ghent was 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, at the chapel of Lancaster Funeral Home. The Rev. Curtis Cameron officiated.
Mr. Ghent is survived by his wife, Sharon Lynn Ghent of Lancaster; two sons, Scott Wade Ghent and his wife, Susanne, of Guyton, Ga., and Christopher David Ghent and his wife, Beth, of Lancaster; three sisters, Debbie Barrett and her husband, Bruce, Linda Ghent Marshall, all of Lancaster, and Kathy Patterson and her husband, Eddie, of Fort Mill; and eight grandchildren.
The family received friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 25, 2014 at Lancaster Funeral Home.
