Funeral services for Ernest Doson Taylor, 89, of Kershaw will be held at 11 a.m. today, April 9, in the sanctuary of Abney Baptist Church. The Revs. Larry Plyer and David Turner will officiate. Burial will follow with military honors in the church cemetery.
Mr. Taylor, widower of Mary Katherine Mills Taylor, died Monday, April 7, 2014, at Kershaw Health, Camden.
Born in Kershaw, he was the son of the late John James and Leacy Haywood Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was retired from Springs Industries, a member of Abney Baptist Church and a U.S. Navy World War II veteran. He enjoyed working in his garden, fox hunting, watching NACSAR and all types of sports.
Surviving are his son, Carroll Taylor and his wife, Linda, of Kershaw; his daughter, Kay T. McManus and her husband, Bruce, of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Troy West and his wife, Cassie, Erica Grasser and her husband, Kenneth, all of Columbia, and Sarah Linden and her husband, Brandon, of Mount Pleasant; a great-grandson, Jack Linden; three sisters, Katherine Taylor of Kershaw, Gussie Keziah of Great Falls and Drucilla McManus of Lancaster.
He was predeceased by nine brothers and sisters.
The family will receive friends following the committal service in the church fellowship hall and other times at his home, 4693 Bethune Road, Kershaw.
