KERSHAW – Florence Payne Whitaker, 90, of Kershaw, widow of Robert Vertis "R.V." Whitaker, died Tuesday, April 8, 2014, at her home.

Born in Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Robert Elmore Payne and Sally Joyner Phillips.
Mrs. Whitaker was a member of Pleasant Plain Baptist Church where she worked in the nursery for many years. She also enjoyed cooking.
Surviving are a daughter, Marcia W. Plyler (Rev. Larry Plyler) of Kershaw; a son, Mitch Whitaker of Kershaw; grandchildren, Scott McKay (Jill), Holly P. Olds (Doug) and Kelly P. Betenbaugh (Chris); great-granddaughter, Madeline McKay; a sister, Vera Catoe ("Son") of Heath Springs; a brother, Jimmy Phillips of Kershaw; and a son-in-law, Ardell McKay of Kershaw.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara McKay; and brother, Robert Payne.
Funeral services were 4 p.m. Thursday, April 10, in Pleasant Plain Baptist Church with burial following in the church cemetery. The Revs. Larry Plyler, Todd Montgomery and Thurmond Johnson officiated.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service beginning at 3 p.m. in the church sanctuary.
