Mr. Charles Bobby Whitaker, 78, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at his home.

He was born Sept. 25, 1935, in Lancaster, the son of the late Evie B. Whitaker and Mary Edna McManus Whitaker and was the husband of Julia White Whitaker.
Mr. Whitaker retired from the S.C. Highway Patrol and was the driver's license examiner for Lancaster County for many years.
He was a Mason with the Wannamaker Lodge and a member of Bethlehem Baptist Church where he served as deacon, greeter and enjoyed driving the church bus.
Mr. Whitaker is survived by his wife, Julia White Whitaker; three sons, Charles E. "Charlie" Whitaker and his fiancé, Sue Flowers Yow, Greg D. Whitaker and his wife, Karen, and Jeffery Whitaker, all of Lancaster; a brother, William "Will" Whitaker and his wife, Martha, of Lancaster; a sister, Sandra Bailey and her husband, Ronald "Bud" Bailey, also of Lancaster; six grandchildren, Steve Whitaker, Robert Whitaker, Whitney Whitaker, Justin Whitaker, Jordan Whitaker and Brandon Whitaker; and four great-grandchildren, Aubrey, Raegan and Hannah Whitaker and Erica Schrader.
Mr. Whitaker was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Wanda Whitaker; two brothers, Johnny Richard Whitaker and an infant brother, Billy Whitaker.
The celebration of life funeral service for Mr. Whitaker is 3 p.m. Sunday, May 11, at Bethlehem Baptist Church officiated by the Rev. Jason Myers. Burial with Masonic rites will follow in the church cemetery.
The family of Mr. Whitaker will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Family Life Center and suggest memorial contributions be made to Bethlehem Baptist Church, Capital Improvement Plan, 1841 N. Rocky River Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
