Mr. Roger Clark Blakley, 70, of Lancaster, widower of Barbara Wright Blakley, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014, in Harrisburg, N.C.
He was born Dec. 1, 1943, in Summerville, a son of the late Bryant and Edwina Blakley.
Mr. Blakley attended Temple Baptist Church and was a former deacon, chairman of deacons and Sunday school teacher.
He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He was retired from Bowater after 30 years. He loved singing and was a former member of the Standfast Quartet gospel group, and also enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting and spending time with nature.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Blakley was 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, at Temple Baptist Church. The Revs. Scott Robinson and Larry Plyler officiated. Burial followed in the Lancaster Memorial Park.
Mr. Blakley is survived by a son, Chris Blakley and his wife, Julia, of Lancaster; two daughters, Melissa Blakley Andreotti and her husband, Mark, of Harrisburg, N.C., and Angie Blakley Griffin and her husband, Eric, of Pageland; four sisters, Ernestine Cannon of Columbia, Lucy Byrdic of Andrews, Nora Young of Rock Hill and Faye Johnson of Lancaster; and eight grandchildren, Bryant Blakley, Daniel Blakley, Carson Andreotti, Drew Andreotti, Steven Griffin, Kyle Griffin, Dana Blakley and Katlyn Blakley.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, June 9, at Lancaster Funeral Home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Living Water Baptist Church, c/o Grandview Baptist Church, 1300 Columbine St., Anchorage, AK 99508, which is Mr. Blakley's grandson, Bryant's, church.
