Mr. Jimmy Dean Burns Sr., 69, of Lancaster, widower of Dottie Taylor Burns, passed away Thursday, July 17, 2014, at Carolinas Medical Center in Pineville.

He was born Sept. 6, 1944, in Lancaster, a son of Doris Bessie Barfield Burns and the late James Deaver Burns.
He was a lifelong member of Springdell Baptist Church. After graduating from high school Mr. Burns joined the U.S. Air Force and served our country in Viet Nam. In civilian life, he worked and retired from Comporium Communications after forty years of service. Mr. Burns was also a HAM radio operator.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Burns was 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 19, at the graveside at Lancaster Memorial Park, with the Rev. Donald W. Tillman officiating.
Mr. Burns is survived by two sons, Jimmy Dean Burns Jr. and David Gregory Burns, both of Lancaster; a daughter, Amy Burns Taylor of Lancaster; his mother, Doris B. Burns of Lancaster; a sister, Sandra B. Williams and her husband, Morrison, of Lancaster; two grandchildren, Gregory Rick Wilson and Mason N. Taylor; and two step-grandchildren, Ariyana Vincent and Aliyah Vincent. Mr. Burns is also survived by many nieces and nephews and his honorary brother and sister, Bill and Brenda Newcomb. In addition to his father and wife, Mr. Burns was preceded in death by a brother, Chris H. Burns.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Lancaster Funeral Home and other times at the home of Doris B. Burns.
