Douglas Leroy Knight, 88, of Lancaster, widower of Sadie Phillips Knight passed away Sunday, December 30, 2012 at White Oak Manor.

He was born Oct. 22, 1924, in Chesterfield, a son of the late Sylvester Knight and Thelma Horne Knight. Mr. Knight was a member of Glenwood Heights Baptist Church. He had retired from Springs Industries as a speeder operator, having worked from 1940 to 1980. He had been a driver for several car dealers in Lancaster.
A service to celebrate the life of Mr. Knight will be held today, Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 at 11 a.m. at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church with the Rev. Joseph Reed officiating. Burial will be in the Pleasant Plain Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Knight is survived by a daughter-in-law, Brenda Knight of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Shari Bowers Sims of Lake Wylie, Gene Knight Jr. and Erin Knight Sims, both of Lancaster; four brothers, Jerry Knight and his wife, Robbie, Charles Knight, Jimmy Knight and his wife, Mary Lou, all of Lancaster and Danny Knight of Dillon; three sisters, Jo Ann Adams, Ann Williamson and her husband, Bobby, and Gail Stogner, all of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his son, Gene Knight Sr.; his daughter, Dianne Knight Bowers and her husband, Charles M. Bowers; two brothers, Robert "Bob" Knight and Tommy Knight; and a sister, Pauline Faulkenberry.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 10:45 a.m., today, Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013, at Glenwood Heights Baptist Church and other times at the home of Jimmy and Mary Lou Knight, 2947 Kershaw Camden Highway, Lancaster.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorials be made to Glenwood Heights Baptist Church, 600 Nichols Road, Lancaster, SC 29720.
The family would like to give a special thanks to all the staff, nurses and doctors at White Oak Manor, who embraced Mr. Knight as family and treated him so well.
The family would also like to give a special thanks to all the family, friends and church family, who came to see Mr. Knight and spent time with him. He loved you all dearly. He never missed a chance to make a lifelong friend. The family takes peace and comfort in knowing that he is with his heavenly father. As the Bible says, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord."
