Jane Denton Blakeney, age 92, a longtime resident of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, Feb. 9, 2013. She was born June 7, 1920, in Cedartown, Ga. She was the sixth of seven children born to Rebecca Elizabeth Dempsey and John Thomas Denton. Mrs. Blakeney is preceded in death by Donald Homer Blakeney, her loving husband of 35 years. Mrs. Blakeney and Mr. Blakeney met while he was a student at Clemson University and both were working for the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Cedartown. They married in September, 1946, and made a home in Cedartown briefly before relocating to Lancaster, Mr. Blakeney's hometown. Once there, Mr. Blakeney and his three brothers formed Industrial Engineering Company in Kershaw with Mrs. Blakeney functioning as the office manager. In 1959, Mr. and Mrs. Blakeney founded Circle Bearing Company in Lancaster where she served as vice president and office manager of the company. Mrs. Blakeney was an active member of the First A.R.P. Church in Lancaster, serving as a deacon and teaching a number of Sunday school classes throughout the years. Her many attributes included being an accomplished bridge player, gardener, homemaker, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Mrs. Blakeney is survived by two grandsons, Hugh Samuel Crissman and his wife, Blythe and James Donald Crissman, all of Durham, N.C.; a great-granddaughter, Eliza Grace Crissman; many nieces and nephews; and a host of treasured friends will miss her immensely. She is preceded in death by her only child, Martha Blakeney Crissman of Lancaster and all six of her siblings: Hoyt Denton, Elizabeth Denton Smyrl, Velma Bobo Crawford, Andrew Wilbur Denton, Mary Denton Smith and Lee Denton Caldwell. Services for Mrs. Blakeney will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, First A.R.P. Church, 701 N. Main St., officiated by the Rev. Dr. Kyle Sims. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Lancaster Funeral Home, 709 N. White St. Memorial contributions may be made to the First A.R.P.
