ANTIOCH, CALIF. – Warren Bohanna Carnes, 87, passed away Wednesday, Feb. 27, 2013, at 8:30 p.m., after a long battle with diabetes and a congestive heart condition. Mr. Carnes was born April 21, 1925, in Lancaster and was a son of the late William Aaron Carnes and Kate Belle Tyson Carnes. He joined the U.S. Navy at 18, when World War II broke out. After serving in the Navy, Warren enjoyed a career as a professional painter and was a representative of the Union Local 127 for five years. He formed his own painting business and retired at age 65, after a prosperous and rewarding career. Warren was an avid fan of the San Francisco 49ers and the Giants. He enjoyed visiting historical sites and playing dominoes and cards with his fellow seniors at the Antioch Senior Center, which he and his wife visited ever day. Survivors include his loving wife, Nimfa; children, Caroline and Renee; stepchildren, Ana Marie, Rose Marie, Stella Marie, Michael and Stephanie; 24 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Jean Lathan and Wanda Kate Needham, both of Pfafftown, N.C.; and his brother, Burgoone Carnes of Laurinburg, N.C. Visitation is from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, March 8, 2013 at the Higgins Funeral Chapel in Antioch. Visitation will also be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 9 at St. Ignatius of Antioch Church in Antioch, with the funeral ceremony following at 11 a.m. Lancaster Funeral Home is in charge.
