Flemming James "Butch" Oglesby, 68, of Lancaster passed away, Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Springs Memorial Hospital. He was born in Jacksonville, Fla. and was a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. F.J. Oglesby. Butch graduated from Paxon Senior High School in 1964. He served in the Florida National Guard from 1965 to 1977 and was a park ranger at Gold Head State Park in Keystone Heights, Fla. from 1972 to 1977. Butch moved to Van Wyck in 1977, where he worked for Ashe Brick Company. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting with his children and loved ones. Butch is survived by his companion of the home, Alice Henderson; a son, Chip Oglesby, son of Pat Oglesby, and wife, Michelle, of Asheville, N.C.; a daughter, Trish Burnett, daughter of Pat Oglesby, and husband, Jeremy; a granddaughter, Elizabeth Burnett of Wilmington, N.C.; a sister, Betty Clark of California; three brothers, Hilliard Oglesby and Paul Oglesby, both of Florida and Richard Oglesby. Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. & Mrs. F. J. Oglesby of Jacksonville; a sister, Elsie Hiener; two brothers, Frank Oglesby and Cecil Oglesby. The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff at Springs Memorial Hospital who cared for Butch in his final days, we are truly grateful. There will be no funeral as Butch graciously donated his body to the Medical University of South Carolina. Memorial services are 3 p.m. Saturday, March 23, at Van Wyck Presbyterian Church, 5140 Old Hickory Road, officiated by the Revs. Randy McSpadden and Barry Lambert. The family will receive friends and visitors in the fellowship hall after the service.
