Mr. William Whiteford "Bill" Moore, 91, of Lancaster passed away Friday, April 19, 2013, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He was born April 16, 1922, in Chesterfield County and was a son of the late Julian and Etta Jordan Moore. Mr. Moore was a devoted member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served in many capacities.  He retired from Springs Industries after working at the Lancaster Plant for 46 years. A U.S. Army World War II veteran, he served in Italy with the 34th infantry division as a technical sergeant and was awarded two Bronze Stars and two Purple Hearts. Mr. Moore is survived by his wife of 72 years, Juanita Mae Hammond Moore; two sons, Mike Moore and Dr. Phil Moore, both of Columbia; a daughter, Janis Aldridge and her husband, John, of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Jason Aldridge of Columbia, Jeana A. Utheim and her husband, Stan, of Charleston, and Justin Moore of Columbia; and one great-grandchild, Norah Utheim; two sisters, Geneva Walters of Columbia and Shirley Bradley of Camden; a sister-in-law, Becky Moore of North Augusta; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Minna Moore, wife of Dr. Phil Moore; and three brothers, Cecil Moore, Jack Moore and Ray Moore. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mr. Moore are 3 p.m. today, April 21, at Calvary Baptist Church, officiated by the Rev. Steve Bateman, with a military honors burial in Lancaster Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. today, April 21, at Calvary Baptist Church fellowship hall and other times at the home, 1272 McIlwain Road.
