Mr. Ward Jackson Tucker Jr. of Lancaster, son of Ward Jackson Tucker Sr. and Ester Caston Tucker, passed away at his home on April 23, 2013. Mr. Tucker was an executive at Kanawha Insurance Co. for 17 years, nine of which he served as president and chief executive officer. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran, who served in the South Pacific during World War II as a pharmacist mate. Prior to his enlistment in the U.S. Navy, he attended Kershaw High School and later achieved his certified life underwriter designation from American College in Byrn Mawr, Pa. Mr. Tucker was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Lancaster, where he served as a deacon and was named deacon emeritus in his later years. Mr. Tucker is survived by his wife, Margaret Pitts Tucker, to whom he was married for 67 years; a son, Ward Jackson Tucker III; a daughter, Margaret Teresa Tucker and her husband, Tony Summey; three grandchildren, Greta Patterson Hancock and her husband, Dr. Greg Hancock, Ingrid Tucker Appleby and her husband, Michael Appleby, and Henry Jackson Tucker and his wife, Katie Bolus Tucker; and two great-grandchildren, Luc Michael Abbleby and Jack Patrick Hancock. Mr. Tucker is also survived by brothers, David Tucker and Donald Tucker; and a sister, Katie Tucker Brazell. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward Tucker and two sisters, Shirley Kohnen and Christine Schwartz. The funeral service for Mr. Tucker is Friday, April 26, 2013, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Hatcher officiating. Burial is in the Kershaw City Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, April 26, 2013, at First Baptist Church family life center. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, P.O.
