Barbara Jean (Babcock) Brothers

1924 - 2012 | Obituary Condolences
Barbara Jean Brothers, 88, of Kalkaska went home to be with the Lord on Dec. 28, 2012. She passed away at her home in Kalkaska. Barbara was born the daughter of Milo Morris and Lucile Alice (Clapp) Babcock, of Kalkaska, on Aug. 20, 1924.
Barbara was a lifelong resident of Kalkaska. She was a graduate of Kalkaska High School and attended Northwestern Michigan College to become a Licensed Practical Nurse. She was a wonderful wife and mother, and a highly talented person.
She married her lifelong friend and sweetheart, Burr Leonard Brothers, who preceded her in death on Jan. 18, 2003, after 60 years of marriage. The ancestors of Barbara and Burr came to Kalkaska in the early 1900's along with the lumbering industry. Their families worked in the lumber camps, and started local businesses that are still serving the community. Their families have deep roots and much love for the area.
Barbara is survived by her daughters Barrie Cross of Kalkaska, and Bonnie Brothers of Traverse City; her granddaughter, Jennifer Griffis and great grandchildren Cassie, Chelsea, Caitie, and Cameron of Belmont, North Carolina; and her grandson Bradley Ward, and great grandson, Noah of Gillette, Wyoming. Also surviving is her sister in law Alice Babcock and her children and grandchildren. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by her brother Lowell Babcock in 2012.
A family memorial service will be held in the spring. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kalkaska. Memorial contributions may be made to Munson Hospice through the Wolfe-O'Neill Funeral Home 106 S. Cherry St. Kalkaska, MI. 49646.
