Stephen "Steve" Horvath


1946 - 2013 | Obituary Condolences
Stephen (Steve) Horvath, 66, of Kalkaska passed away peacefully at his home on March 25, 2013, with his wife and friends at his side. Steve was born on Dec. 27, 1946 in Lansing.
He was raised by his adoptive parents Frank and Peggy Horvath, who preceded him in death. Steve graduated from Waverly High School in Lansing in 1966. After high-school he joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era. He reached the rank of Sp4 corporal and was stationed in Korea and Germany. Upon returning in 1969, he worked for a private security company.
Steve married Kathy (Watts) on June 25, 1977 on the MSU campus in East Lansing. They moved to the Kalkaska area in 1982. He worked for Factory Direct and Hamilton Farm Bureau as a delivery driver. He spent the last ten years working for Sara Lee Bakery. Steve enjoyed outdoors, cutting wood, camping, fishing and hunting. His favorite time of year was from October thru December, deer hunting season.
Steve is survived by his wife Kathy of 35 years; sister, Shirlian (Chuck) Lumbert; mother-in-law, Vivian Watts; sisters-in-law Patricia Watts, Joyce Watts, and Susan Goldsborough; brothers-in-law Mike (Jeanette) Watts, Murl (Kellie) Watts, Richard Watts, and Rusty (Fran) Watts. Also surviving are his many nieces and nephews. Steve will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation for Mr. Horvath will be held at Kalkaska Funeral Home, 152 South Cedar St., on Monday, April 1 from 1 to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m., and a Scripture reading at 7:30 p.m. A Mass will be held at St. Mary of the Woods Catholic Church at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 2 with Reverend Norman Dickson, S.J. officiating.
