Charles O. Barr, Sr.
Charles O'Donvan Barre, age 90, went peacefully to be with his Lord on Monday, April 1, 2013.
He was born on October 21, 1922 in Sullivan, IN to Julia and Charles Oliver Barre. He moved to Florida on October 1, 2012 to be with his seven children: Vera Pennington (Sam) Howey-in-the-Hills; Charles Barre, Jr. (Sandy) Ocala: Gary Barre (Joan) Ocala: Barbara Parris (Jim) Orlando; James Barre (Tina) Orlando: and Judy Reid (Tony) Tampa. He lived with his daughter, Barbara, and her husband Jim, who faithfully took care of him until his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Oliver, Robert and Harvey Barre; his sisters, Martha Cleveland and Maxine Martin; the mother of his children, Estelle Barre; and his grandson, Jeremy Pennington.
He is survived by his wife, Docia Barre, Ashland City, TN; his step-son, Kenneth Groves (Jan); step-daughter, Pam Rucci, Las Vagas, NV; his brother, Clarence Barre, Altanta, GA; 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was retired military, iron worker, and business owner. He was a member of Patton's Third Army with an Artillery unit and later was attached to the 101st Airbourne Screaming Eagles Division, where he served as a pilot. He was at Pearl Harbor, when it was bombed and helped many to safety. He later was sent to Normandy, Holland, and Germany during WWII
. He was a great American Hero who loved telling his stories and loved his country. He later worked as a civilian employee at Ft. Campbell, KY after retiring from the military. He was an iron worker and business owner until his final retirement.
A celebration of his life will be celebrated at Sykes Funeral Home, 424 Franklin Street, Clarksville, TN. Viewing will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 4-8 p.m. and Monday, April 8, 2013 from 9-11 a.m. The service will be Monday, April 8th at 11 a.m. Burial will be at Fairview Red Top Cemetery following the service.
