John Clifton Sites

John Clifton Sites, age 89 of Clarksville, Tennessee, passed away October 27, 2013 at St. Thomas West Alive Hospice.

John was born August 5, 1924 in Clarksville. He is survived by Anne Kleeman Sites, his wife of sixty-six years. He is pre-deceased by his brother, Jack Walter Sites, and is survived by his sister, Frances Ellis of Salt Lake City, Utah. John's parents were Marie Walter and Clifton Groff Sites.

John joined the Air Force at age seventeen. After training, he served in the Eighth Air Force as part of the 401st Bomb Wing as a bombardier and navigator. Stationed in England, John flew seventeen missions over Germany and left the service with the rank of Lieutenant. After the war, he completed his education at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, then returned to Clarksville and joined the family business, Sites Jewelers. John retired in 1995 and continued to serve as an advisor to his son Bill, who assumed control of the business.

John was a life-long parishioner of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and served on numerous committees, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a past President of the downtown Kiwanis Club, and Board member and Chair of the Board of Guaranty Federal Savings and Loan. John was an ardent supporter of Clarksville, and served in many roles in these efforts.

His loves were his faith, country, family and his friends. John was known for his wit, loyalty, kindness, humor and charm. His manners and polite nature permeated his activities; he was a gentleman's gentleman. Ever ready to assist those in need, he quietly provided support to many. Anne and John enjoyed good times with manifold friends that extended from their marriage to the present time.

In addition to his wife and sister, he is survived by his son, William (Cynthia) Sites, Nashville; son, John (Cindy) Sites, Greenwich, Connecticut; and daughter, Elizabeth (Steven) Conovitz, South Pasadena, California.
