Born September 20, 1925 in Chicago, IL, daughter of Alice Hall Lindsey Hart and Joseph Pembroke Hart. Granddaughter of Alice Miller Hall Lindsey and Edward Allen Lindsey of Nashville. Widow of Alexander Whittemore Cortner, who died August 3rd 1976.

Was graduated from Ward-Belmont Preparatory School in Nashville and from Bryn Mawr College, Bryn Mawr, PA. For 22 years, she taught high school English at Clarksville High School and the Clarksville Academy, where she served as Interim Headmistress from 1978-1979. In 1988, she received from the Tennessee Association of Independent Schools the Hubert Smothers Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Member of First Presbyterian Church in Clarksville, TN, where she served as Deacon and as an Elder. Member of the Junior League of Nashville; former member of the Clarksville-Montgomery County Library Board; member of the Amateur Garden Club; member of the Tennessee Retired Teacher's Association; member of the Art Study and Students' Clubs; member of the Mid-Cumberland Arts League; former secretary of the Community Concert Association Board; former docent at the Clarksville-Montgomery County Museum; former board member and coordinator for curriculum plays presented by the Roxy Theater.

Survivors: two daughters: Martha Lindsey Cortner, Nashville, TN and Mary MacDonald Cortner, Nashville, TN; two sons: Alexander Whittemore Cortner, Jr., Smyrna, TN and Pembroke Hart Cortner, Frankfort, KY; two grandsons: Chase and Chad Cortner, Smyrna, TN; one sister: Mrs. Charles M. Boteler, Jr., Gaithersburg, MD.

Memorial gifts to be sent to: First Presbyterian Church, 213 Main Street, Clarksville, TN 37040; or The Roxy Theater, 100 Franklin Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.

Memorial services to be held on Saturday, April 27th at 2 p.m., at the First Presbyterian Church, 213 Main Street, Clarksville, TN with visitation to follow.
