Catherine Cornell Alcock, age 93 of Clarksville, died August 25, 2013 at Gallatin Healthcare, Gallatin, TN.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 12 p.m., at Neal Tarpley Parchman Chapel, with Dr. Roger Freeman and Dr. John David Laida officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 28, 2013 from 4-7 p.m. and Thursday, August 29, 2013 from 11 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Catherine was a native of Clarksville, the daughter of the late Gerald and Gillian Waters Cornell.
Catherine spent her childhood growing up on a farm owned by her parents in the Ringgold Community. After earning an elementary teaching degree from Austin Peay State University, she taught school in the Ringgold Community. Later, she enjoyed a highly successful career as District Manager with the World Book Encyclopedia Division of Marshall Field Educational Enterprises. She earned the company's highest honor for sales and production. During their retirement, Catherine and her husband enjoyed collecting antiques and participating in antique shows around the country. The couple owned and operated Heritage Hill Antiques, Clarksville. As a member of the First Baptist Church, she belonged to the Phebean Sunday School Class.
Catherine enjoyed a life-long interest in gardening and flower arranging and took special pleasure in her home. She was a volunteer with the Clarksville Montgomery County Museum, Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen, and served on various committees at APSU. She deeply enjoyed her bridge club, of which she was a member for over 50 years. She was a member of the Elegante Club and forged lasting friendships through her participation in both clubs. Catherine was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother.
Preceded in death by her husband, Albert E. Alcock, she is survived by three daughters, Kay Baird of Harker Heights, Texas, Dorothy Ann Gee and son-in-law Frank T. Gee of Gallatin, Debbie Nichols and son-in-law Jim Nichols of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Paul Britton, Larry Britton (Heather), Mark Gee, Catherine Gee; two sisters, Dorothy Louise Fort and the late Emma Mai Palmore; and several great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Active Pallbearers will be Mitchell Cherry, Bob Fort, Frank Gee, Joe Wayne Giles, Jim Nichols, Fred Landiss and Buddy Palmore.
