Dorothy Maxine Brausey

Dorothy Maxine Brausey, the daughter of Oliver and Amy (Crow) Domer, was born December 21, 1928 in Waterloo, IA. Her childhood years were spent in Waterloo where she received her education, graduating from Waterloo High School. After graduation, she worked for two years as a nanny for a doctor in Boone, IA, who had a handicapped child.

Dorothy married Ralph Brausey on September 19, 1946 in Kansas. Following their marriage, they lived in the communities of Boone, Waterloo and Des Moines until moving to Spencer, IA in 1964. She was a member of Christ The King Lutheran Church in Spencer. In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting, reading, embroidering, sewing and volunteering at the church, where she made over 400 baptismal banners. Dorothy loved to travel, and toured Germany and Austria, as well as taking a cruise to Alaska and traveling to Reno, NV to visit her son. For the last 10 years, Dorothy and Ralph had spent their winters in Tennessee.

She passed away on Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the age of 83.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; one brother, Donald Domer; four sisters, Gladys Domer, Viola Chrisman, Effie Reasland and Harriett Jones.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Ralph of Spencer; 10 children, Clinton (Wanda) Brausey of Norfolk, NE, Grace Fortner of Tacoma, WA, Ralph Gary (Judy) Brausey of Spencer, IA, Mary (Leon) Daniel of Clarksville, TN, Colleen (Robert) Dillard of Dickens, IA, Mark (Rhonda) Brausey of Bayview, ID, Ruby (Bill) Nitzel of Spencer, IA, Laura Groth of Spencer, IA, Paul (Jennifer) Brausey of Spencer, IA and Robert Brausey of Kansas City, MO; 23 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Vivian (Delbert) Sommerfelt of Independence, IA; 3 brothers, George Domer of Coralville, IA, Duane (Thelma) Domer of Donna, TX and James (Val) Domer of Baja, CA; other relatives and many friends.

Services 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at Christ The King Lutheran Church, Spencer, IA. Rev. Mike Huebner and Pastor Christopher Nitzel officiating. Interment Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, IA.
