Robert Michael O'Bryan (Mike), age 60, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Friday, January 4, 2013. His hard fought six-year battle with colon-rectal cancer was finally over.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 12, 2013, at First Baptist Church, Clarksville, TN. A reception will take place in the church fellowship hall immediately following the service.
Following a family tradition, Mike wanted to donate any part of his body that would help someone when he died. In an effort to promote medical training and research, Mike's final gesture of goodwill was in the form of gifting his remains to the Genesis program. The Genesis program is a willed body-donor program for the advancement of science. Genesis supports the Medical Education and Research Institute (MERI), a medical education, hands-on training and research facility based in Memphis, Tennessee. Mike's cremated body will be returned to his family when he has finished with the research projects that he qualifies for.
Mike was born June 20, 1952 in Clarksville, TN. He was the tenth child of twelve children born to Hubert and Nancy (Mantlow) O'Bryan. He was a 1970 graduate of Clarksville High School and was formerly employed by Frosty Morn and Frigidaire. He was on medical disability from Peterbilt when he passed.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, Dean (Vickie) O'Bryan, Dorothy O'Bryan, Frank (Cornelia) O'Bryan and Ruby (Ted) Howell.
Survivors include his loving wife, Sandi Dixon O'Bryan; his children, Jason & Jamie O'Bryan (Peyton, Skye), Scott O'Bryan & fiancée Karen (Avery, Eryn, Cody, Courtney), Bill & Susie Vanderwall (Eric, William), Rick & Liz Vanderwall (Missy); grandchild, Brian O'Bryan-Stone and great-grandchild, Ian O'Bryan-Stone; and siblings, Barbara (Tom Ed) Haley, Helen O'Bryan, Herb (Donna) O'Bryan, Jane (Howard) Kirby, Jerry O'Bryan, Martha (Steve) Palmer and Paul (Sherry) O'Bryan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Daniel Miller for his friendship and guidance, and Asera Care Hospice for their outstanding service.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman. He had a great love of deer hunting and fishing. He also was the Grill Master King. One of Mike's greatest passions was fellowship with his family and friends while sharing food, usually that which he had grilled.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that friends bring a covered dish or food item for the reception following the service and share in this celebration.
The family of Robert Michael O'Bryan is being cared for by McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home, (931) 647-3371. On-line condolences may be made at NaveFuneralHomes.com.
