Ruth Lavern Briggs (Frizzell) Battle Obituary
Ruth Lavern Briggs (Frizzell) Battle

Ruth Lavern Briggs Battle (Frizzell), born February 11, 1928 in Olmstead, KY to Matthew Frizzell and Nettie Sydnor Frizzell of Clarksville, TN. She was the last remaining child of 12 siblings.

She was a graduate of Burt High School and a member of the Glee Club. She resided in Clarksville, TN, when she met and married Fred Lee Battle on May 4, 1967. Together, they settled in Louisville, KY to raise their family.

She was a faithful member of Meadowlawn Baptist Church, where she served in the choir until she became homebound, and she was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 6 Auxiliary. She was a loving wife and mother who enjoyed raising her children and was a joy to be around.

She was a master craftsman at nurturing her children and many others, and words cannot express how greatly she was loved and will be missed on this side of Heaven.

As she joins her firstborn, Richard (Sonny) Briggs III in glory, she leaves behind a loving husband, Fred Lee Battle, Jr. and 11 children, Carl Edward Briggs, Patricia Briggs Burks, Michael Briggs (Renee), Wayne Briggs (Cathy), Susan Briggs Mathis, Barbara Briggs Bowden, Fredrick Lee Battle, Chris Battle (Vickie), Matthew Battle (Cherie), Kathy Ruth Battle, Frank Battle (Yashawna); 33 grandchildren; 44 great-grandchildren; a host of others, and a legacy of love and joy. She will be missed, but always remembered.

Please, in lieu of flowers, send all donations to Meadowlawn Baptist Church or to DAV chapter 6 in Valley Station, KY.

Funeral 11 a.m. Friday at Meadowlawn Baptist Church, 12103 E. Orell Road. Burial Kentucky Veterans Cemetery. Visitation 7-9 p.m. Thursday at the church.
