Mrs. Dorothy "Dot" Virginia Davis Drake, age 89 of Brentwood, passed away Saturday, August 9, 2014.
Mrs. Drake was born March 2, 1925 in Montgomery County, TN to Ed and Alice Batson Davis. She grew up in the Southside community of Montgomery County and attended Montgomery High School, where she played on the basketball team. She continued her education as well as her love for basketball at Austin Peay State University, where she earned a degree in English. She was a member of Forest Hills United Methodist Church for 40 years. She was the co-founder of the kindergarten program at Hillcrest United Methodist Church and served as Director for over 20 years. She enjoyed traveling with her beloved Sam, visiting Hawaii, Africa and Europe. She was a member of the church quilting club, an avid gardener and she loved to cook.
She was preceded in death by her parents and nine siblings.
She is survived by her husband, Samuel Thomas Drake, Sr.; son, Samuel Thomas Drake, Jr.; daughter, Betty Wayland (Bruce) Mason; grandchildren, Houston Reid Wayland and Kathyrn Virginia Sophia Mason.
To honor and Celebrate Mrs. Drake's Life, a service will be conducted 1 p.m. Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Forest Hills United Methodist Church with the Rev. Dr. Vincent Walkup officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park with family and friends serving as Pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 12 p.m. until the time of service on Tuesday at the church.
