A celebration of life service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at First Missionary Baptist Church, Clarksville, Tennessee with Rev. Robert P. Harris, Jr. officiating.
Visitation will be from 12 noon tilll 1:00 p.m. Friday at Foston Funeral Home and from 2:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Friday at First Missionary Baptist Church with family present 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.
The remains are to be cremated.
Foston Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
He was born March 28, 1949 in Clarksville Tennessee son of Lottie Ramey Thornton and the late Daniel A. Thornton. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Round Pond Community. He was a graduate of Historic Burt High School where his team won the State Championship. He was a retired Master Sergeant, U.S. Marine Corps. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and the Desert Storm campaign. Upon his retirement from the Marine Corps, he went to work for the Honolulu, Hawaii, Police Department. After returning to Clarksville, he became a school teacher at Cheatham County Central, where he taught World Geography, World History and American History for three years. Mr. Thornton was a mentor who taught his students about life, pride, and race relations.
Survivors include his wife, Marjorie Thornton; son, Donald Thornton; daughter, Jennifer Pittman; mother, Lottie Thornton; sisters, Debra Berry and Brenda Thornton; brothers, Gregory and Richard Thornton; grandmother, Jennie Ramey; aunt, Sarah Jordan; uncles, Bert, Donny and Cornelius Ramey; 4 grandchildren, and a host of other family and friends.
