Roger L. Huntley

Roger L. Huntley, age 68, passed away Sunday, May 8, 2011 at the VA Medical Center in Nashville.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 14, 2011 at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, with Pastor Willie J. Freeman officiating. Visitation will be on Friday, May 13, 2011 from 9 to 8 p.m., at Henry Smith Funeral Home, with family present from 6 - 8 p.m. The Masonic Rites will be held at 7 p.m. during the visitation. Interment will be 9 a.m. Monday, May 16, 2011 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery.

Roger L. Huntley was a beloved husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife, Shirley M. Huntley; daughters, Dr. Chandra Coughley of St. Louis, MO, Dionne McCowan and Antoinette M. Huntley of Clarksville, Rosalind (DeAntoney) Terrell of Fort Hood, TX; sons, Anthony Huntley of Maryland, Douglas McRae and Direk Huntley of North Carolina; grandchildren, Carla Coughley, Roger "Lil Roger" Huntley II, Dashon Terrell, Darrius McCowan, Brandon Huntley, DeAriana Terrell and DeAndria Terrell.

He retired in 1988 after a decorated and meritorious career in the U.S. Army. After retiring from military service, he went to work for Tennessee's Department of Safety as the Chief of Capitol Police Division until his retirement in 2001. He received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Public Management from Austin Peay State University. He was a master at communication skills and gained respect from all the people he worked with. Roger was loyal, loved working with people and was a true friend.
