Walter Lee Akin

Walter Lee Akin, age 79, passed away Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at his home in Cumberland Furnace.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, November 18, 2012 in the chapel of McReynolds-Nave & Larson Funeral Home, with the Revs. Jerry Shelton and David Fambrough officiating. Burial will follow in McWhorter Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday from 1 to 8 p.m. and from 1 p.m. until the hour of service Sunday, at the funeral home.

Walter Lee was born August 18, 1933 in Montgomery Co., son of the late Morgan and Mary Elizabeth Hayes Akin. He retired from Buck Construction Company following 30 years of service as a carpenter. He was also a retired farmer. Walter Lee was a U.S. Army veteran and a member of Memorial Baptist Church.

He is survived by his loving family, which includes his wife of 57 years, Patricia Brockert Akin of Cumberland Furnace; his sons, Jerrold Akin, and Jeff Akin and his wife Trina; his daughters, Cheryl Pennington and husband Greg, and Regina Cheek and husband Tim; brothers, Norman Akin and wife Mary, Thomas Akin, Edward Akin and wife Kathy, and Wade Akin; and sisters, Lillian Burroughs and husband Dennis, Lib Stockdale, and Patricia Dyce and husband Frank. He was the proud grandfather of ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and uncle to a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Clinton "Tee" Akins, J.D. Akin, Herman Akin and Dean Akin.

Pallbearers will be Andrew Akin, Garrett Akin, Eric Pennington, Shaun Akin, Wade Akin and Edward Akin. Walt O'Hara and Bill Jones will serve as Honorary Pallbearers.
