L. Drew Matteson

L. Drew Matteson, age 71 of Ellenwood, GA, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013.

A brief graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, August 25, 2013 at Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville, TN.

Drew was born in Lansing, MI in 1941 to Andy and Gertrude Matteson. The family moved to Clarksville, TN when he was a small child. Drew was a standout football player at Clarksville, High School. He received a football scholarship offer from the University of Tennessee, but an injury prevented him from playing for the Volunteers. Instead, he attended the Castle Heights Military Academy in Lebanon, TN and Austin Peay University in Clarksville, TN.

Drew was a successful businessman who owned and operated businesses in Georgia, Florida and Oklahoma. For the last 25 years, Drew was the owner-operator of Ornamental Security in Lake City, GA. Drew was an outstanding card player excelling at bridge, cribbage, poker and blackjack. He enjoyed travelling, both foreign and domestic.

Drew was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lucia Matteson of Marietta, GA; two daughters, Adena Helm and her husband David of Prattville, AL, Christa Denson and her husband Ed of Decatur, AL; two sons, Matthew Matteson and his wife Natasha of Young Harris, GA, Andrew Matteson and his wife Kari of Mableton, GA; eight grandchildren, Hunter, Brittany, Katie, Caroline, Sierra, Savannah, Rylee and Shelby; nieces and nephews; and his loyal dog, Dudley.

Drew was preceded in death by his mother and father; his sister, Donna Thomopoulos; and his dog, Sugarbear.
