WINTER HAVEN - Viola S. "Vi" Lane, 88, formerly of Oneonta and most recently of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away on Friday, July 26, 2013 at her residence, due to natural causes.
Vi was born on March 18, 1925 in South Kortright, the daughter of Lloyd and Martha (Whitney) Simmons. She married James M. Lane, Jr. on March 16, 1946, and he predeceased her on December 12, 1996.
Vi grew up on a dairy farm in Hobart. She worked for a period of time with Delaware County Electric.
For many years, she and her husband owned and operated Lane Way, Inc. in Oneonta, where she was an officer and Secretary-Treasurer of the company.
Vi was an avid golfer, and was a member of the Oneonta Country Club, as well as the Continental Country Club in Wildwood, FL.
Vi was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta.
She is survived by her son, Robert J. Lane of New Berlin; a sister-in-law, Ruth Simmons of Harpersfield, and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sisters, Edna Johnson, Ruth Many, Marguerite Hughes and a brother, James Simmons.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at 1:00 PM at the Lester R. Grummons Funeral Home, 14 Grand St., Oneonta, NY with the Rev. Craig D. Schwalenberg, pastor of the Unitarian Universalist Society of Oneonta, officiating. Burial will be in the Ouleout Valley Cemetery, Franklin.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 11 AM to 1PM on Saturday, August 3, 2013 at which time the family will be in attendance.
Memorial contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 4139 Sun 'n Lake Blvd, Sebring, FL, 33872.

Dear Bob, I was out of the country when your mom died and so I missed the memorial service. I have such good memories of her and your dad. I see that you live in New Berlin and would be happy to have you stop in to see me at 67 Church Street;
