CURTIS LANIER Obituary

CURTIS I.
LANIER, 86
Sign Painter/Artist

LAKELAND - Curtis I. Lanier of Lakeland FL, went to be with his Lord on September 23, 2013 due to complications from Alzheimer's disease.
He was born on November 10, 1926 in Lakeland, FL, the oldest son of Rowan and Lura Lanier. After graduating from Lakeland High School, he joined the Army and served in the occupation of Japan during World War II. Shortly after returning from the war, Curtis pursued his artistic talents to become a sign painter. He owned and operated Lanier Signs and his leisure activities included drawing and painting.
Curtis loved spending time with his family. He was a member of Family Worship Center of Lakeland from its beginning where he served as an usher and enjoyed doing artwork for the church. He was a member of the Lakeland Art Guild and won many awards for his paintings. As a member of the Lakeland Lions Club he participated in their sight conservation programs and was honored as Lion of the Year in 1979.
Curtis was a passionate supporter of the Lakeland Dreadnaughts and volunteered his talents to the athletic programs at the school. He was proud of his art work that adorns the walls of the LHS weight room and locker room as well as several individual paintings related to athletics. He was rewarded for his contributions when he was inducted into the LHS Athletic Hall of Fame in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Debbie Adrian. He is survived by his loving wife of fifty years, Audrey Jean Lanier; his daughter Tonya and her husband Flip Farinella; his son Mark and his wife Dianne Lanier; his son-in-law Richard Adrian; his nine grandsons: David, Greg, and Adam Hahn, Luke, Sam and Drew Lanier, Hunter, Jacob and Kyle Adrian.
