There could only be kind words to describe such a wonderful, genuine and sincere lady. I've known Mrs. Barnes since I was a child. She was a good friend to my family and later became a great influence on me as a student in her CBE class. She was liked and respected by all who came to know her. She was a gem. What wonderful impressions and memories she will leave behind for us to look to.

I first came to know Lorene as my teacher in business courses and in CBE in high school. Later, she became my stepmom. The first thought I have of her is "what a class act". Even today as I work in the business world I can hear her talking about what is "acceptable" and "not acceptable" in an office. I owe a lot to her both professionally and personally. Love and miss her greatly!

Lorene was an amazing woman who I love dearly. She was the best Stepmom that any young girl could ask for. She was a beautiful, strong, classy, loving and caring woman. She taught me so many priceless lessons in life. I thank God for blessing our family with her.

A very sweet, sincere lady that touched many in ways far beyond the classroom. Mrs. "Barnes" Sawyer, I'm forever grateful to you for believing in me and coaching me not only in making career choices, but in my personal life as well. My thoughts and prayers are with the family. While she was and always will be known as Mrs. Barnes to me, she was a pivotal part of my life and I only reached out to her once, early on to thank her. For that I am ashamed. Over 32 years ago she MADE me (believe me, I was not so sure I wanted to) interview for my CBE school to work job at Publix Super Markets. And 32 years later, I am still at Publix and have God and Mrs. Barnes to thank for setting me, and keeping me, on my way. I know there are other students of Mrs. Barnes, some still at Publix, some retired, that do as well. My heart goes out to the family.
